CATERINA RENAUX HERING

Caterina Renaux Hering is an artist whose work includes drawings, ceramic sculptures, assemblages, music, costumes, and performance. Her creations give form to the mystifying substances that animate emotions, crafting a language that resonates with both delicate and dense sensibilities. Starting with a lifelong dedication to drawing, using sketches to navigate the labyrinth of subjectivity and emerge from abstraction towards clarity. Her unique aesthetics arise from experimenting with materials like resin, silicon, fabrics, and “poetic leftovers,” embracing both accidents and accomplishments to yield enchanting results and preserve traces of touch. Caterina lives and works in Berlin.

‘Debris of Great Grand Liegestuhl’ 2024.

Charcoal and dry pastel drawing cast in silicone, with aluminium profile.

92 x 50 cm

“This piece emerged from a nostalgic moment, where "saudade" moved me to create forms of things that are part of the intimate repertoire of my memory, already somewhat distant. "Saudade," a Portuguese word, describes a deep emotional state of nostalgic longing for something or someone that one cares for and which is absent. The summer chair of my great-great-grandfather, kept as a relic in our treasure-filled basement. The work has two textures: the red part is smooth, while the lines are intertwined over a rustic cotton texture. Debris of tender memories, thus eternalized *in silicone.”

This is a very strong and present piece. It holds a sensual appeal through its texture and unique materiality, featuring a black-and-white contrast with shades of grey in elegantly balanced proportions. It is the mother of the oneiric forest thematic: "Silently dense, the oneiric forest of remembrance." This is a bold, beautiful, and sleek artwork.

‘Camouflage Sauvage’ 2024.

Charcoal drawing cast in silicone.

70 x 40 cm

This is a skin-like slice of an oneiric forest that blossomed in my mind, as real as a vivid dream, and it just leaked through my fingers to become concretely present. This piece has a stylish and playful aura. I would call it a cool one.

‘Poem to Gaetano Pesce’ 2023.

Charcoal drawing cast in silicone with resin elements.

147 x 80 cm

"Poem to Gaetano Pesce" is a homage to the artist and designer Gaetano Pesce, one of my heroes. During the creation of this piece, I was exploring Le Corbusier's body of work, which left a visual imprint on it. This artwork entangles the free play of a brave creative process with the consistency of carefully crafted intents.

‘Heart is a Mess’ 2023.

Charcoal and dry pastel drawing cast in silicone with resin details.

163 x 85 cm

In "Heart is a Mass," a heart is depicted in an imaginary way, as mass and mess—heavy, playful, joyful, lively, and simultaneously free at rest. It is an expressive piece, large and aesthetically liberating.
